01 · The problem

Card processors shut you down. Bitcoin doesn't care what you sell.

Square, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Shopify Payments and GoDaddy Payments ban firearms sales outright in their posted policies — even in person, even with a valid FFL. Stripe doesn't ban them outright; it files them as a restricted business and declines most FFLs. Even the processors that call themselves gun-friendly can drop you, and hold your money while they decide.

6
Mainstream payment platforms that ban firearms outright — Square, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Shopify Payments, GoDaddy Payments.
Rolling
A slice of every card sale is held back as a reserve, released on the processor's schedule — standard on firearms accounts (2Accept's own FAQ).
2.65–3.5%
Per-transaction fee on firearms card processors — plus 30¢ a sale and a monthly fee on top.

Posted policies, verified 6 October 2026: Square payment terms, PayPal acceptable use, Venmo prohibited transactions, Cash App terms, Shopify Payments eligibility, GoDaddy Payments prohibited businesses.

Your 4473, NICS check, bound book and transfers stay exactly the same. This is a payment method at the register — nothing more.

02 · The catch

Here's what we're not doing.

NO CUSTODY

We never hold your money

Bitcoin lands directly in a wallet you own. We cannot freeze your account because we don't have your account.

NO PERCENTAGE

Flat fee — monthly or annual, never a cut

Monthly or annual, you pick; whatever you do $500 or $50,000 in Bitcoin that month, the price is the same.

NO CHARGEBACKS

Confirmed Bitcoin is final

Nobody calls their bank three months later and demands a refund on a rifle.

NO RESERVE

Your money isn't held

High-risk processors withhold a slice of your gross as a rolling reserve, released on their schedule. We hold nothing.

NO BUYER KYC

You're taking a payment, not opening a bank

No identity collection by us. They scan or tap, and pay.

NO LOCK-IN

Month to month, from day one — on monthly

On monthly billing: thirty days' notice, any time, no reason needed. Annual is a 12-month prepay, so it trades the flexibility for the better price. Your rate is locked either way — you aren't.

NO FFL CHANGE

Compliance untouched

4473, NICS, bound book, waiting periods — all identical. Bitcoin is just the tender.

03 · How it works

Live in one afternoon. No downtime.

A real payment, at your counter, on real equipment — before anything touches your business.

  1. Twenty minutes, and a live paymentAt your counter, I ring up a real invoice on my server and pay it from my own wallet while you watch. Nothing installed on your side, nothing committed. If it's not a fit, we shake hands and I leave.
  2. Wallet setup, together30–60 minutes. You create it, you hold the seed phrase. I write down nothing.
  3. Terminal at the registerAny tablet or old PC with a webcam, pointed at your wallet. Counter NFC tag included.
  4. Ongoing supportUptime monitoring, security patches, and a US phone number that answers. The 14-day pilot runs first, so on annual your first charge lands on day 15; monthly billing starts the day your counter goes live. And if you haven't taken a Bitcoin payment in 60 days, I refund every dollar you've paid and take the terminal back.

04 · Pricing

Flat fee — monthly or annual. Never a percentage.

Monthly or annual — your choice. Annual is the best deal: pay for ten months, get twelve, your rate locked for two years — and it's the only way to take the 14-day free pilot. Monthly stays month-to-month; leave any time on 30 days' notice. Flat fee either way, never a percentage.

Annual only — what you get for paying the year up front

  • Two months free. Twelve months for the price of ten — worth $198–$598/yr by tier.
  • Expect slow first months — that's expected, not failure. Bitcoin adoption at the counter is early; almost nobody runs a rail like this yet, so your customer flow will start quiet and build as you and your regulars learn it. The 14-day pilot is exactly for measuring that at zero cost — with the 60-day guarantee behind it if it never takes hold.
  • Your rate locked 24 months (standard tiers). After that, monthly holds the then-current rate but can move on 30 days' notice. The founding five keep their founding rate for as long as they stay — see Founding terms.
  • Free annual security audit of your payment server — a $500 value.
  • Priority support — 4-hour email, 1-hour phone + Slack on Bundle.
  • Free custom POS integration on Bundle annual — your register talks to Bitcoin — normally $1,500+.
  • Bundle annual: ≈$2,600+ in year one — the $598 two-months-free saving plus $2,000+ of extras ($500 audit and $1,500+ POS wiring). Counter and Online annual get the saving plus the $500 audit; the POS wiring is Bundle-only.

Two optional add-ons. Either one bolts onto whichever plan you pick — never auto-billed, added on request, dropped at renewal if you don't want it.

Add Pro — the Shop Assistant · +$100/mo

A private assistant on your own dedicated server. Closes your Bitcoin books nightly and emails a QuickBooks-ready CSV. Patches and restarts things at 4am. Text it “what did I take Saturday?” and get an answer. +$100/mo, or +$1,000/yr on annual.

Add CRM — the Lead Desk · +$179/mo

A lead-and-job tracker built around a counter, not a sales team. Every call, text and walk-in logged; quotes followed until they answer; layaways and transfers tracked; the NICS wait marked on each sale; every Bitcoin invoice marked paid in the record — read off the payment server, never moved by us. +$179/mo, or +$1,790/yr on annual.

The common founding pitch: Counter + Lead Desk runs $278/mo — the payment rail and the tracker around it, one relationship, one number to call. Online prices stay as published either way; nothing is bundled into a locked rate.

FOUNDING TERMS

Your rate never goes up. Here's what it costs you.

Let us tell the story honestly, using your shop's name — a written case study of how this works on your counter, and your permission to say we work with you. No referrals, no introductions, nothing owed beyond that. Do that and your founding rate — $99, $299 or $249 depending on tier — is your price for as long as you stay. No clock, no step-up, on either billing; and you can leave any time on 30 days' notice. Annual just means you chose to prepay for the better price and the extras.

The 14-day free pilot is annual-only. Fourteen days on your counter is how you find out if this is real — and annual is how the pilot gets funded. Annual also pays for itself sooner: at a 3% card fee (Stripe's published rate is 2.9% + 30¢), Counter annual needs about $2,750/mo of sales moved off cards to break even; monthly needs $3,300/mo.
The honest version: below that, you'd save less than you pay and be down. Tell us your numbers on the call and we'll say so.

Published pricing, verified 6 October 2026: 2Accept, TacticalPay, BitPay, Coinbase. Coinbase Commerce was retired on 31 March 2026; its custodial successor, Coinbase Business, is the row shown. Our range spans founding Counter ($99/mo) to standard Bundle + Pro + CRM ($708/mo) — the Pro and CRM add-ons are optional; annual billing is $82.50/mo and up. Founding rates are limited to the first five DFW shops. Soar Direct is non-custodial — the others either hold your funds or take a cut of them.

How to read this page: build yours like ordering at a counter.

Pick one base — where you want Bitcoin — then add whichever helpers you want. Three bases × four helper options = twelve combinations, every one of them a flat fee and never a percentage of your sales. Reading tip: #9 Bundle is cheaper than #8 Online + both — if you plan to take any two helpers, Bundle almost always wins.

Against the others. They take a cut of everything you sell; we take rent on the counter.

Yearly cost on the same Bitcoin volume, each provider priced from its own published rates (formulas below the table — redo it with your numbers). Our row is the founding Counter rail — the $990/year one — because the honest comparison at every volume is: what does the shop pay before helpers?

ProviderTheir model$10k/mo$30k/mo$50k/mo
2Accept (firearms)3.49% of every sale + holds back a cash reserve$4,488$12,864$21,240
TacticalPay (firearms)2.65–3.5% + $0.30/sale + $25/mo$3,792$10,776$17,760
BitPay (custodial)1–2% + $0.25/sale — passes through their wallet$1,860$5,580$9,300
Coinbase Business (custodial)1%+ — holds funds, and firearms merchants aren't allowed$1,200$3,600$6,000
Soar Counter$99/mo flat — your wallet, never a cut$990$990$990
Soar Bundle + both$578/mo flat — every helper, still never a cut$5,780$5,780$5,780

Working shown, redo it with your own numbers (assuming a ~$500 average sale): 2Accept = 3.49% of volume + $300/yr software allowance; TacticalPay = 2.85% midpoint + $0.30/sale + $25/mo; BitPay = 1.5% midpoint + $0.25/sale; Coinbase = 1.0%. Where theirs wins: at low volume a percentage can be cheaper — Counter beats Coinbase's raw fees only past ~$8,250/mo (Coinbase's math), 2Accept's past ~$1,650/mo, BitPay's past ~$5,300/mo. Two things the raw fees don't price: the reserves it takes 2Accept and TacticalPay weeks to release, and the fact that Coinbase refuses firearms merchants at any price. Above ~$13,000/mo, every one of our twelve combinations — even the $5,780 everything config — beats every competitor's raw fees, and the shop's money sits in its own wallet the whole time. Tell us your volume on the call and we'll say so.

06 · If we disappear

What happens if Soar Direct is gone tomorrow?

Your wallet is your wallet — you have the seed phrase, we don't. What you'd lose is the bridge between your register and that wallet, not a cent of what's in it. Worth being precise about, because most companies aren't.

Your bitcoin stays yours

Every satoshi your wallet ever received is still sitting in it. You hold the seed phrase and we have never had it — nothing on our side can reach your funds.

New invoices stop

The honest part: the QR on your screen and the tag on your counter both point at a server we run, so if it goes, no new invoices can be issued until another server stands in for it. Nothing is stranded by that — those funds are already in your wallet, not in the terminal.

The door is never locked

BTCPay Server is open source and nobody needs our permission to run it, so your setup can outlive us. You hold your store config and credentials from day one, so standing up a replacement — with us or without — is your call, not ours.

08 · Questions

Everything you need to know.

If it isn't here, call or text. You get a person, not a bot.

It shows as paid within seconds. Final settlement — one confirmation — averages about ten minutes. On small items, release when seen, same as standard retail practice.
It depends on how you already run the counter. Take payment after Proceed and the customer waits out the confirmation, same as any other tender. Start the invoice while the paperwork runs and the confirmation happens alongside your 4473 and NICS check, so both finish together — you get the ten minutes back, and a denial becomes a refund instead of a cancelled sale. Either works; we'll set it up whichever way you already do it.
No. ATF Form 4473, the NICS background check, ID and residency verification, bound book entries, transfers and waiting periods are all completely unchanged. Bitcoin is a different way to pay at the register. Your obligations are identical to a cash or card sale.
The invoice locks the Bitcoin amount to the dollar price for about 15 minutes. Pay inside that window and the dollar amount is fixed no matter what the price does. You receive the USD value you invoiced.
Nothing in federal law stops it. Federal law governs who may receive a firearm and what the dealer records — same Form 4473, same NICS check, same bound book — not how the buyer pays for it (18 U.S.C. § 922; 27 C.F.R. Part 478). And the Bitcoin is never ours to hold: the customer's wallet pays yours directly, so there is nothing for us to pass along. FinCEN's guidance is explicit that supplying software "utilized in money transmission" is trade, not money transmission, and that paying for goods on your own behalf is not money transmission either (FIN-2019-G001). Not legal advice — run it past your own attorney.
Handled by you, the same as a cash refund — usually store credit or the dollar value at the time. Bitcoin is final, so a refund is a payment you send, not a charge that gets reversed. Your refund policy, and any paperwork or restocking fee in it, stays yours.
On a denied or delayed check: if you take payment after Proceed, this never comes up — no money moved. If you take it up front, a denial is refunded like any other, and you keep whatever fee your policy already charges for the transfer work you did. A Delayed result is the one to think about: federal law lets you transfer at your discretion after three business days, and if you'd rather not hold someone's money that long, take payment on Proceed instead.
Yes. Bitcoin divides to eight decimal places. They pay the exact dollar amount, converted at the moment the invoice is created. $5 or $5,000 is the same process.
Scanning is the main way, and nearly everyone will use it: your screen shows the QR, they point their wallet app at it, the amount is already filled in. The tag is there for when scanning is the annoying part — glare, a cracked camera lens, bad light, or a customer who doesn't want to hunt for the camera. They touch their phone to the tag and the same invoice opens. It's included either way.
Yes, and I'd rather you heard it from me. BTCPay Server is free, open source, and nobody needs our permission to run it — which is exactly why your setup outlives us. If you're technical and you've got the evenings, do it. What you'd pay us for is that it never becomes your problem: a server, Docker, DNS, a certificate, and a full Bitcoin node — roughly 600GB and several days just to sync. Then it has to stay up, and you find that out the way you'd least like to: with a customer at the counter.
Not as it stands with the Counter tier — the Online tier adds Bitcoin to a checkout you already have, and if your site is just your hours, your address and a phone number, there's nothing to add it to yet. Start at the counter and add online later; plenty of shops do. I do build storefronts and will quote that separately, but it is not part of the monthly fee and I won't bundle it into one.
It's the optional add-on (+$179/mo): a lead and job tracker built around how a counter actually runs. Every inquiry gets logged, quotes get followed until they answer, layaways and transfers stop living in a notebook, each sale carries its NICS-wait status, and every Bitcoin invoice is marked paid in the record. That paid status is read off the payment server by webhook — the CRM never holds or moves a cent, and your custody setup is identical with or without it. Records export as a spreadsheet any time, and your bound book stays exactly where ATF requires it: with you.
Not on our servers, and the reason is the whole point of this business. A Lightning node has to hold live keys on the machine it runs on. If that machine is ours, we can technically spend your money — and then we're a custodian, which is the thing we refuse to be. Lightning works one way only: the node runs on hardware you control, and we connect to it with a credential that can create invoices and read balances but cannot send a payment. Ask on the call and we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth the trouble for your ticket sizes — for most gun shops it isn't yet.

09 · Who you'd be dealing with

One guy in Dallas–Fort Worth.

I'm Alex Sanchez, and Soar Direct is me. I build software for small operators, and when I went looking for who gets shut out of ordinary payment tools, gun shops were at the top of the list — banned outright by most major payment apps, and paying three to five percent to the ones that will take them.

The crypto payment companies that already existed either skim a percentage off every sale or hold your money for you. Both are bad deals for a shop. So this is the version I'd want if I ran the counter: flat fee, no percentage, your keys, and open-source software that outlives any company — including mine.

You won't get a sales team, a call centre, or a rep who rotates out. You get me, at your counter, and afterwards on my own phone: (214) 290-5097.

— ALEX SANCHEZ · DALLAS–FORT WORTH, TEXAS
